Real Change: A New Plan For a Strong Middle Class (page 48)
" Close to 32 per cent of Indigenous peoples in Canada self-identify as Métis peoples. The Métis Nation represents important Métis communities in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Budget 2016 proposes to provide $25 million over five years, beginning in 2016–17, to support economic development for the Métis Nation. " ("Growing the Middle Class" Budget 2016-2017)
"Budget 2017 also proposes to invest $84.9 million over the next five years, and $28.3 million per year ongoing, to build the governance capacity of the Métis National Council and its five provincial Governing Members. This will lay the foundation for a new relationship with Métis Peoples and support collaborative work with the federal government on moving toward Métis self-government and self-determination. Funding will also support Métis identification registries and the review of existing programs and services." (Building a strong middle class, March 22, 2017)
