"Forgiving a portion of federal student loans for those who agree to practice in under-served rural or remote areas."

“In order to attract and retain health care providers to and in under-served rural and remote communities, loan forgiveness for health care professionals would complement already existing incentive programs. Under this measure, a portion of Canada Student Loans (CSLs) allocated to family physicians (including residents in family medicine programs), nurses, or nurse practitioners who work during a year in an under-served rural or remote community would be forgiven for that year.” (Source 1)

“The Government of Canada today announced that eligible family doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners who work in rural communities will have a portion of their Canada Student Loan forgiven starting in spring 2013, thereby improving primary health care in rural communities.” (Source 2)

“That's why, as of April 2013, the Government of Canada offers Canada Student Loan forgiveness to eligible family doctors, residents in family medicine, nurse practitioners, and nurses who work in rural or remote communities.” (Source 3)
