March 22, 2016 - "The CRA sends out over 130 million pieces of correspondence each year, but many of these letters are difficult to understand and at times can be confusing. In response, the Government proposes to invest in revamping the structure, design and format of its correspondence to ensure all communication is straightforward and easy to read. Over the next three years, virtually all of the CRA’s correspondence for individuals and businesses will be in this new, easy to read format." - Growing The Middle Class, Budget 2016-2017, p. 206 - Government of Canada
February 11, 2016 - "The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue, P.C., M.P. accompanied by Marc Miller, M.P. for VilleMarie-Le Sud-Ouest-Île-des-Soeurs, today announced improvements to the way the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) communicates with millions of Canadians. The improvements are an early deliverable on the Government of Canada's commitment to make the CRA client-focused and more helpful to Canadians. Starting in February 2016, the CRA will send Canadians a new, simple, easier to read Notice of Assessment (NOA), following filing of their income tax and benefit return. This will be followed in July 2016 by simplified Benefits Notices to benefit recipients, including notices related to family benefits and the GST/HST credit." - Minister Lebouthillier announces improvements to CRA correspondence: making tax and benefit information easier to understand, Press release - Canada Revenue Agency
