Mackeen Lieutenant-governor PC Nova Scotia: Speech from the throne, First session of the 49th General Assembly, December 1st, 1967 I am pleased to welcome you to this first session of the 49th General Assembly convened in the Province and I extend my best wishes to each of you; and regret having to interrupt your private undertakings at this time. A measure will be laid before you to provide that the steel plant of the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation Limited at Sydney shall be operated for a period beyond the 30th day of April 1968, the date at which the corporation announced it would close the plant. The measure will also authorize, ratify or confirm the entering into and carrying out of an agreement between the Province of Nova Scotia and the corporation to achieve that end and the doing of any other matter or thing conducive to that end. To these and all other matters which may come before you I ask your most careful attention, praying that divine providence may guide you in your deliberations and decisions.
