Joseph Leonard O’Brien Lieutenant-Gouverneur PL Mr. Speaker and Gentlemen of the Legislative Assembly, It is again my esteemed privilege as Her Majesty's representative to extend greetings to you on this opening day of the first session of the 45th Legislative Assembly of the Province of New Brunswick. As all hon. members are aware the 44th Legislative Assembly was dissolved on March 12 last with a relatively heavy volume of public business then awaiting consideration. It is the intention of my government that such business will now be proceeded with as expeditiously as possible. Events of recent weeks have culminated in public endorsement of those policies of my government that have greatly enhanced the industrial and economic prospects of our province, particularly in the resource-based industries, and that have brought improved opportunities and a higher level of public services to our people. It is the purpose of my government to now pursue the further implementation and expansion of those policies with renewed vigor. The estimated revenues and expenditures for the current fiscal year will be submitted again for your approval. I now leave you to your tasks, confident of your high resolve, with the prayer that Divine Providence may guide you in all your efforts to improve our province and advance the interests of all our people.
