In the name of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, it is my privilege to welcome you to this
the first session of the fifty-second General Assembly of the Province of Prince Edward
Island. It pleases me to recognize, amongst your members the first lady member of this
Legislative Assembly in the person of Mrs. Jean Canfield.

At the opening of the fifth session of the fifty first General Assembly, programs, policies
and proposed legislation of my Government were outlined. You will be asked to continue
your deliberations of these and such additional initiatives which my Ministers shall
propose to this present session of the Assembly.

The people of Prince Edward Island have clearly expressed their desire for social
progress and economic advancement. Yours is a great responsibility. The many strengths
and talents of our citizens, and the abundant resources of our Province will assist you in
the exercising of that responsibility.

May Divine Providence guide and assist you in the matters awaiting your deliberations.
